The short version
This site sets no cookies at all unless you allow them. The only thing stored by default is your answer to the cookie banner, which is kept so we do not ask you the same question on every page.

The analytics row is listed as pending because the provider has not been chosen yet. No analytics cookies are set on this site today. This table will be completed before any are enabled.
The categories
Essential
Needed for the site to work and to respect your choices. These cannot be switched off, because switching them off would include forgetting that you asked us to switch things off.
Analytics
Tells us which pages people actually read, so we can write more of what is useful. Off unless you turn it on.
Marketing
Would measure whether a campaign brought someone to the site. We do not use any today. The option exists so that if we ever do, you have already been asked rather than told.
Functional
Would support optional features such as live chat. Nothing on the site uses this today.
Changing your mind
Use the Cookie preferences link in the footer of any page. You can change or withdraw permission at any time, and it takes effect immediately.
You can also clear site data through your browser settings, which removes your stored answer entirely — we will simply ask again on your next visit.
Why we ask at all
The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations require your consent before anything non-essential is stored on your device. We have implemented that the way we think it should be done: nothing pre-ticked, "Essential only" given the same prominence as "Accept all", and no dark patterns designed to tire you into agreeing.
